Fujifilm X-T100 User Review: Mirrorless Camera For Travel

Fujifilm X-T100 Mirrorless Camera User Review

The Fujifilm X-T100 is the first mirrorless digital camera I’ve bought. After days of online survey and research by reading countless reviews, comparing X-T100 & X-T20, I have decided to get the X-T100 with the XC 15-45mm kit lens.

I first saw the X-T100 when a social influencer started promoting it and using the same Fujifilm camera (2018 is the year X-T100 launched) and she posted quite some nice pictures on Instagram. Since I’m about to travel to Nha Trang Vietnam (which has been cancelled due to coronavirus) for a holiday, I guess I would need a digital camera to capture some moments while having a chill & relaxing beach trip.

I’m here to share my review and thoughts about the Fujifilm X-T100 mirrorless camera. It was my first time getting out to the street to take some night photography in Brickfields, KL.

For a new user like me, I can say my first experience with X-T100, was having a difficult time with the autofocus, it’s unpredictable and images frequently get blurred. I am the one to blame for not adjusting the settings of apertures, shutter speed, and ISO correctly. The camera can take sharp images if you know how to use it. This camera work great for daytime photography, with flawless picture quality.

I eventually have to switch to SR+ mode (Auto) and let the camera handle the night shot. With the correct settings, I can still get great pictures shot at night out of this camera.

Design

The X-T100 has a slick body and classic look with its champagne gold color. It fits well for users who have small hands. The knobs and buttons are quite straightforward, easy to use to access features & settings such as the Film Simulations, ISO, shutter speeds, and aperture settings.

The tilted screen does give some advantages when trying to take video or photos alone.

Performance

I have nothing to complain about X-T100 and so far I didn’t find any serious issues with the X-T100 performance as mentioned by other photography blogs or reviews. I find it works pretty well for a new mirrorless camera user like me. I would upgrade to the latest X-T100 firmware for improved performance.

Image Quality

In my opinion, The X-T100 image quality is superb and sharp, only when hands are not shaking and getting the right settings for it. The kit lens that came with the camera is great for landscape, portrait and street photography.

Video

4K video only comes with 15fps, which results in choppy video and I don’t even use it. The 1080p video I’ve captured is good enough for normal video recording or vlogging. X-T100 body and the 15-45mm kit lens are not weather-sealed, so make sure it doesn’t get wet in the rain.

Well, I don’t want to get brainwashed by all the bad comments found on the internet and forum discussions about X-T100. I would say consider buying this camera only if you want an ‘aim and shoot’ mirrorless camera with great image quality. If you are tight on the budget but want sharp quality images, X-T100 is the camera to go for.

The Fujifilm X-T100 is an interchangeable lens mirrorless camera. Not satisfied with the kit lens? Get a new lens. There are tons of X-mount camera lenses out there to choose from. If you are planning to shoot portrait, sports or long-range, the most affordable telephoto zoom lens to get is the Fujinon XC50-230mm lens and it works quite well with the X-T100 model.

Professional users usually use more advanced features and settings from the Fujifilm X-Series cameras such as the X-T20, X-T30, X-T2, X-T3, X-T200, or the latest Fujifilm X-T4. Recently I purchased a Fujifilm mirrorless camera and I’m kind of already falling in love with it, read the Fujifilm camera under $750 review now!

Consider X-T100 as your camera already? Pimp up the camera with these accessories such as JJC Hot Shoe Cover, X-T100 PU Half Camera Case, classic camera hand strap, screen protectors and external microphone for vlogging. Also do not forget the camera bag to store your mirrorless camera and lenses.

Conclusion

Fujifilm X-T100 is a lightweight mirrorless camera (only weight 448 grams), convenient to bring out when traveling. This camera fits small to medium hand size and takes great street photography and landscape photos.
